Melbourne Roadtrip

Hello! I know it’s been a while since I’ve last posted but I haven’t been feeling any inspiration lately. I hope that one day it will come back but for now, please enjoy this video I put together of my road trip to Melbourne!

November RECAP!

I think it just hit me today that we’re actually in December and I completely forgot to post a November Recap. So, let’s rewind back to the posts this last month in case you missed any of it – I got you covered!

  • This season, we were blessed with Yuri on Ice and I wrote a First Impression Review: – I tried to not include any spoilers because I know the pain of discovering a spoiler and your life is completely over. I covered the first 5 episodes of the anime and if you want an update, my opinion hasn’t changed. I still love it so much. Or you could say that I love it so much more.
  • A few months ago I realised that it’s been a little over a year since I’ve started watching anime. It’s been one hell of a year filled with too many feels and I don’t regret any of it at all. To celebrate this “one year anniversary”, I wrote a post about my top 5 favourite anime series of all time:

That’s it for November! I’m not sure what December will have in store but keep your eyes peeled because I’m sure things will get much more exciting!

I have apparently been watching anime for a little over a year now so to commemorate this moment, I am going to tell you my top 5 favourite anime series. I have reached the point where I have seen over 140+ series so obviously choosing 5 is going to be the hardest thing I’ve ever done but I will face this challenge and tell you which have made it to my list!

👑 Haikyuu 👑76662

I just caught up with the third season of Haikyuu and watching that made me come to the conclusion that Haikyuu is without a doubt my favourite anime series ever. The combination of teamwork, spirit and character development is what makes it so incredibly amazing. You feel like you’re a part of the team, cheering them on when they’re fighting, feeling scared when they’re losing and screaming your lungs out when they win. So, you’re basically a part of a huge ass family and that is one of the main reasons why I love it so much.

28859l Natsume Yuujinchou

Natsume wins the award for the most heartwarming anime. After watching an episode, you are left with this feeling of warmth and joy. No exaggeration. It’s an anime that you just have to watch to understand why it’s so incredible. The friendships and the stories explored warm my heart with so much happiness. It’s probably the best “Slice of Life” that I’ve seen and with it mixed with supernatural and drama, it makes it one of a kind (in my heart)!

Rating: 9/10

Kaichou wa Maid-sama! 25254

Kaichou was the first romance anime I’ve seen and I am a sucker for romance. I absolutely love Nicholas Sparks so it doesn’t surprise me that I love Kaichou. The only problem is that Misaki didn’t say I love you to Usui T^T (in the anime, anyway) and I will forever wait for that moment… which won’t come, probably. But it’s an anime that puts a twist on “classic romance” so you’re bound to love it.

imagesFull-metal Alchemist: Brotherhood

FMA: Brotherhood is a must watch. It is simply out of this world and you just have to do it. The story, the characters, the tension, the obstacles, the drama, the themes, just everything about it is outstanding. It’s really easy to follow since it’s pretty Westernised so it’s a great starter anime for anyone getting into anime.

Donten ni Warau 57309

Donten surprised me. At one point, it threw me in the deep end and I literally sobbed. A lot of anime have gotten me to cry but I will not get over this one – I feel so betrayed! Nevertheless, Donten is great. It shows the strong bonds between siblings and friends and what’s not to love about that?

So, there we have it – my top 5! If you haven’t seen any of these yet, please give it a go. I would love to say that you won’t be disappointed but everyone has a different taste. These are just mine!

First Impression: Yuri on Ice!!

yuri-on-ice-kvHonestly, I have no idea where to begin because this anime surprised the hell out of me with how incredible it is. Yuri!! On Ice revolves around Yuri Katsuki who carried all of Japan’s hopes to win at the Grand Prix Ice Skating Competition. Unfortunately, he lost. He returns home to Kyushu and tosses between the choices of retiring from ice skating or continuing it. With those mixed feelings swirling inside of him, he confines himself at his parent’s house. Suddenly, Viktor Nikiforov, the five-time consecutive world champion shows up at his place and offers to be his coach. That is basically the story in the nutshell.

I was blown away by the first episode. It ticked all the boxes for me. You knew who the protagonist was, you knew what he wanted and you knew what stood in the way of him getting what he wants. The world that the characters live in was established quickly and the characters were developed so well. The fact that you could learn so much about a character’s personality in just one episode is outstanding. I think rather than being drawn to the story, you’re drawn to the characters which in turn makes you love the story. It’s very much a character driven story since we empathise with Yuri and his struggles which make us follow on with the anime series.

Yuri is such a cherub that I just want to squish him because he’s so adorable! He never ceases to surprise me. There was one scene where Yuri (or Yurio) Plisetsky was talking down to him but Yuri just smiles and says that Plisetsky is underestimating him. The fact that he’s so confident in his skills even though he knows that Plisetsky is better than him… it’s just so refreshing to see someone who isn’t afraid to be confident in who they are and what they do and to also not let anyone get in the way of getting what they want. Although, it’s still clear that he needs a major confidence booster and the only way of getting that is from Viktor (I assume).

I would like to also take a moment to appreciate Viktor because he is such a precious being. His heart smiles KILL ME EVERY TIME!

I absolutely love the relationship between Viktor and Yuri as well. The progress that Yuri has made so far is amazing because he used to be someone who was afraid to be in the same room as Viktor. He is now so comfortable being around with him that he doesn’t get so flustered anymore. It just makes me smile with joy to see how much he’s grown, not only with his relationship with Viktor but also with his confidence in himself.

Other things I’ll like to mention are that there is fanservice in this anime. I personally don’t think it’s THAT bad because I’ve seen worse. Although it might be because I am a female viewer that I don’t find anything wrong with it but there are so many (ahem, Kill la Kill) series out there that have fanservice for the male audience and it is literally so obvious that I just want to kill myself. So, here is a warning to you that there is fanservice. I believe there’s also Yaoi in it too. At first, I didn’t think it was too bad but the more you watch it, the more you realise how gay it is BUT I still love it so much either way.

Finally, I can’t get enough of the animation and the OST (History Maker – Dean Fujioka & You Only Live Once – W.hatano.) because it is simply perfection. I view ice skating as a sport that is elegant and breathtakingly beautiful. Yuri on Ice captures this so well. It is just so pleasing to the eye to watch and I think when you watch the anime, it speaks for itself better than I can ever describe.

How do I rate Yuri On Ice so far? It’s a 10/10 in my books! I haven’t felt so inspired to write a review in so long so please go watch it. I love it so much already and it’s only been 5 episodes. I can’t wait to see what direction the season will go!

Happy Halloween! 🎃

I thought it would be nice if I told you the horror/psychological anime series I’ve seen so far and my thoughts on them. I don’t really like this type of genre because I just don’t like anything scary or gore. I can handle psychological and that is about as far as it goes.

Akira akira_1988_poster

I was recommended this by a friend of mine who doesn’t watch anime often so for him to tell me that this is a really good one and that I should watch it, I got onto it right away. It’s an extremely deep and philosophical anime because it explores so many issues in the world. It really opens your eyes to technology and the effects of power and greed. I thought it was alright. It wasn’t great but it’s a classic that you should at least see once.

77957 Erased

I absolutely loved Erased. I honestly didn’t see that the perpetrator would have been that character. My friends tell me that they saw it coming but I definitely didn’t. Erased never failed to keep me on the edge of my seat by the end of each episode and I was DYING to know what happened next (I was watching it while it was airing). I 1100000000000% recommend this. It’s incredible. I did write a review on it so go check it out if you want!

Danganronpa: The Animation

I watched Danganronpa in my early days of anime because it was recommended to me by a friend of mine. You see, she hasn’t failed me with a recommendation yet so I trusted her. Little did I know that this anime was a horror and I was pretty scared while watching it. Don’t get me wrong, Danganronpa is pretty good but I definitely would not want to go to that school. The ending caught me off guard too.

 Deadman Wonderland

I actually don’t really remember this anime well so… I have nothing to say about it… I gave it a pretty good rating so it must have been good. I apologise for my terrible memory, though!! (*/▽\*)

Rating: 7/10

Death Note 9453

I didn’t really enjoy Death Note. I feel like the story was pushed for too long and there were episodes where you can tell that it’s only there just to make the series longer. I don’t particularly like anime that are slow paced and this one was definitely slow. It has a lot of potential and if it got to the core of the story quicker, I would have enjoyed it.

Rating: 6/10

Death Parade

I loved the plot of Death Parade. I think it’s quite unique and I haven’t seen anything like it before. I love Decim because he’s like this innocent and naive dude who just follows what he’s told until he starts to question his methods when Kurokami comes along. I think also liked it so much because it’s the plot follows one of the basic principles of writing a story. I’m just geeking out now from things I’ve learned at uni (//▽//)

Rating: 8/10

Tokyo Ghoul 64449

I watched the censored version of Tokyo Ghoul and still found it pretty gross with the gore. I enjoyed it regardless of all the gore-y parts because it has a great plot and characters. I’ve heard that the anime strays away from the manga but that doesn’t bother me since I don’t read the manga.

That’s it, folks! I hope you have a great Halloween this year and I’ll see you next year for the next “spooooooky” post!

My Anime Binge List

I AM BACK!!!!! I finally finished my Spring semester of university and now I am free for the next 5 months!!! That was one hell of a semester and I am hoping that I passed all of my subjects so let’s pray together.

Anyway, while I have been ‘studying’ and ‘working hard’ during the semester, I have been gathering, you could say, a list of anime series that I want to binge. Now that my semester is over, I can finally attack this list and dwindle it down until it’s small again because it is a pretty long list. I have to admit that I am guilty of watching a few anime series during uni but they were currently airing…. and I needed to have the satisfaction of finishing it… you know when you watch a series that is currently airing and you can’t stop watching it weekly because you already started to watch it while it was airing so you can’t stop that routine and wait? Yeah, that is basically me whenever I start something that is currently airing. If I watch one episode, I have to watch the next one next week because I already know that it’s there and it’s literally teasing me to watch it. I don’t know. Maybe it’s just me. Let me know if you do it as well! Alright, enough of me rambling and let’s start with the list:

A Little Break

I’m a little hesitant writing this post because I feel like that there’s no point to it. When I created this blog, I was so so so so so inspired by many things that I ended up posting quite regularly. I had way too many drafts and obviously the majority of them have been posted.

I’m going to go on a little break. Uni is literally killing me right now and I really don’t want to face writing. I realised that choosing Creative Writing as a second major may have been a terrible choice but as my friend says “as long as you have the basics, you can steadily improve”. So, I’m guessing it’s going to be mind over matter for this situation?

Don’t worry though! I will be back in two weeks when uni is over. I have some great ideas lined up for this blog (hint: harry potter). So, goodbye for now but not forever! Hopefully, I’m still alive by the end of the semester!

ALSO, I reached 30 followers some time ago and I would like to say thank you so much! I know it’s not a lot but I didn’t think anyone would be interested in my blog so thanks so much. I appreciate you all ❤
